Ajax will cooperate with Veldmate’s early departure. "I've had an amazing time in Amsterdam, for which I would like to thank the club. The 66-year-old will take the position of International Scout at Eredivisie club FC Groningen. His new contract will start on June 15, 2023.
In his time as Head of Scouting at Ajax, he was partly responsible for the signings of international players like Nico Tagliafico, Lisandro Martínez, Antony, and Edson Álvarez. In his time as technical manager at FC Groningen, Veldmate was partly responsible for attracting Luis Suarez and Dusan Tadic. Both players would later on in their careers sign for the Amsterdam-based club.
