Ajax will have to get it done without captain Steven Bergwijn for the next few weeks. The forward suffered an upper leg injury during training this week. "How long he'll be out depends a bit on how his recovery goes," says trainer John van 't Schip. "But I think we'll be without him for at least February and also part of March."

In and against Heerenveen, Van 't Schip won't be able to call on Devyne Rensch either, after he had to leave the match last weekend against PSV (1-1). "Devyne is making good progress, but won't be ready yet by Sunday. We need to look at whether he'll make it for Thursday, or the following weekend. We're sort of looking at it day to day, but he's closer to being ready to play than we first expected."

Sivert Mannsverk is gradually making his return. Van 't Schip is content that the Norwegian played his first game minutes in nearly five months with Jong Ajax against Jong FC Utrecht. "Of course it's very important for him. When you're new, and you get injured right away, that's always difficult. He played his first thirty minutes, he's taken the first steps. Hopefully he'll be able to play more minutes there until he's ready to make his return to the first team if needed."
