Ajax went into the break in Nijmegen with a 0-0 interval. "We felt the goal was coming, but couldn't create it in the first half," Van 't Schip said. "During the match, NEC got better. We had a few more good opportunities. But if you don't score that goal, it always remains tense."
The 0-1 still came after almost an hour of play through Kristian Hlynsson. "I was happy with 0-1. Brian made a good move and Kristian then finished well. He was delighted to score the opening goal."
Van 't Schip did regret that Ajax did not move clear from NEC earlier. "If we had made better choices, we could have moved clear earlier. The fact that they made it 1-2 makes it exciting for a while, but all in all this is a well-deserved victory."
