''Dear fans, I’m leaving Ajax and making the move to Bayern Munich'', Van Eijk begins in her message to the supporters. Speaking from the familiar surroundings of De Toekomst, the goalkeeper openly reflects on seven wonderful years in the Dutch capital. ''It feels very exciting, but also a little nostalgic already. I realise that I’m leaving the club, the club where I truly grew up. I’ve been here for a long time and have continued to develop myself here.''
'I’ll carry the best experiences with me'
''There are two sides to it'', Van Eijk explains, speaking from the dugout at the main pitch of Ajax’s training complex. ''I’m also 24 years old, and I feel my time here has come to an end. I’ve experienced some beautiful moments here, but also some difficult ones. It feels as though I’ve had the very best experiences I could have had here. I’ll carry all of those with me. Ultimately, you also have to look ahead. Right now, I’m truly following my heart.''
Van Eijk was previously part of the CTO programme and began her Ajax career with the reserves. ''It was the first time there was a Jong Ajax Women’s team. I was much younger then and far less developed. I didn’t really know what I wanted yet. I only knew that it had to be something in football. At that time, I still felt a lot of uncertainty about, well, pretty much everything.'' On October 8, 2021, Van Eijk made her official debut for Ajax Women.
Mentally stronger on the road to the Club of 100
The talented goalkeeper subsequently developed into the undisputed first-choice keeper for Ajax Women. She fought her way back from two anterior cruciate ligament injuries and returned between the posts mentally stronger than ever. Last season marked a highlight in her sporting journey and personal development. Van Eijk earned a place in Ajax’s prestigious Club of 100, securing her spot among the club’s most loyal and distinguished players. Now, the time has come to take the next step in her career.
How would the young girl who arrived at Ajax full of footballing dreams look at the Regina of today? Van Eijk answers with a confident smile: ''I think with a great deal of pride.''
