Ten Hag’s first instance of winning this award came after the 2018/2019 season. Ajax brought home the double that year. He was also elected as the best coach of the year while at FC Utrech, for his performance in the 2015/2016 season. The 51-year-old coach is the first to have won the award three times.

This past season, it was his double-winning performance that earned him the trophy once more. Ajax were commanding winners in the league and, after a great run against various top sides, brought home the cup as well.

Managers
The winner of the Rinus Michels Award is determined by the managers of all Dutch professional football clubs. The other nominees were Henk Fraser (Sparta), Sjors Ultee (Fortuna Sittard), Fred Grim (RKC Waalwijk) and Thomas Letsch (Vitesse).
