Trailing at half, Edson Alvarez was replaced by Davy Klaassen for the start of the second period having received a yellow card in the thirty-ninth minute. The Germans maintained a strong press for the first ten minutes of the half before Ajax began to dominate possession as the half rolled on.
It was not until the seventy-second minute that Ajax were able to finally equalize, however, as the Germans held firm. The equalizer came from a cross by Antony that was redirected by BVB’s Thomas Meunier, falling to Dusan Tadic who tapped the ball in at the back post.
Having equalized, Ajax did not let up, and eleven minutes later, they took the lead through Sebastien Haller, who scored his seventh goal of this Champions League campaign, thanks to another assist from Antony.
Finally, in the ninety-third minute, Antony finished off his hat-trick of assists with a ball into the box that was tapped in Davy Klaassen to make it 1-3. Thanks to four wins from four matches, Ajax have qualified for the knockout stage of the Champions League.
