Ajax and Steven Berghuis have reached an agreement on a new contract. The 33-year-old forward's new contract runs until June 30, 2027. The previous contract of the Dutch international was set to expire at the end of the current season.

Berghuis (born in Apeldoorn, December 19, 1991) has been playing for Ajax since 2021. The left-footed player made his debut for the first team on August 7, 2021, during the Johan Cruijff Shield match against PSV (0-4). In his first season in Amsterdam, he immediately won the Eredivisie with the club. So far, he has played in 143 official matches for Ajax's first team, scoring 33 goals.

Technical director Alex Kroes: "We had been talking with Steven for some time about extending his contract. We are very pleased that we now have him with us for two more years. He is an extremely important player due to his creativity and attacking capabilities. Additionally, he is versatile and can play in multiple positions. He has made a clear sporting choice to stay at Ajax within the new reality. With his experience and passion for the game, he is a role model both on and off the pitch."
