"It was great making my European debut today (Thursday, ed.), I'm just delighted", said Vos following the European fixture. The talented midfielder was not nervous. "I was perfectly calm. I've already been on a few times, so it was healthy nerves."
Marking the centre field
Vos came on for Benjamin Tahirović immediately after half-time. It was 2-2 at that point in the Johan Cruyff ArenA. Steijn gave him a clear job to do. "I had to mark centre field. Beyond that, I also had to keep on top of everything and win my challenges", said the eighteen-year-old Ajax player.
The Ajax midfielder earned two yellow cards in the second half, which sent him off early. Vos felt the first yellow card was not fair. "The second was fair enough, I should have been a bit cleverer there. Of course, I already had a yellow card, so it wasn't at all clever. I see it as a lesson learnt."
Mixed feelings
Steijn appeared to have mixed feelings in front of the cameras following the Ajax – Olympique Marseille game. "We had opportunities to bring this over the line, but after a tough week I can see a team that has sorted itself out. I am proud of the team, but still a little critical."
Ajax were leading 2-0 after twenty minutes. "It was great having a comfortable lead. Then we went and gave away two goals just like that. That was a shame, because we then basically had to start over again", said Steijn.
