Spitse and Kop make it to FIFA Women's World Cup

Sherida Spitse and Lize Kop have been called up by national manager Andries Jonker for the Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The Ajax players are part of the 23-strong squad of Orange Lionesses revealed to the world on Friday.

A total of four Ajax players made it to the pre-selection stage, but Romée Leuchter and Tiny Hoekstra failed to get through to the final squad.

For Spitse this will be her third World Cup. The experienced midfielder previously played in 2015 and 2019. Four years ago, Kop was also in the squad.

In the opening line-up against Portugal.

The Women's World Cup kicks off on Thursday, 20 July. Three days later, on Sunday, 31 July, the Orange Lionesses will play their first group match against Portugal. Jonker's team will also be competing against defending champions the United States (27 July) and Vietnam (1 August) in Group E.
