Ajax was immediately put under pressure in Norway. Bodø/Glimt wanted to decide the match as soon as they could after the 2-2 draw in Amsterdam. Ajax thanked Diant Ramaj for keeping a clean sheet in the first half.
Ajax’s first attack hit the nets. Berghuis finished a low pass given by Brian Brobbey wonderfully. The captain of the Amsterdam-based team slotted the ball home.
Red card Šutalo
In the second half, Ajax seemed to run into trouble quickly. Josip Šutalo received a red card for taking down a player on the breakaway. After that, the crossbar saved Ajax two times.
Bodø/Glimt threw John van ’t Schip’s team a life by receiving a red card, too. Attacker Grønbæk received two yellow cards within ten minutes. Because the Norwegians played with ten men, too, Ajax slowly regained control of the match. Via Anton Gaaei, who came on as a substitute, the Amsterdam-based team even had a chance of scoring 0-2.
Shortly before full-time, Patrick Berg’s team scored the equaliser. Both teams had a chance of scoring a goal before the extra time started but failed to do so.
All outcomes were possible in the extra time, but it was Ajax that was under the most pressure. It looked like the match was heading towards a penalty shoot-out, but Ajax scored the winning goal. After a corner, the ball ended up in front of Taylor’s feet. He seemed to give a cross-pass but saw the ball ending up behind Bodø/Glimt’s goalkeeper. Far into the extra time, Berg’s free-kick hit the crossbar. The match ended 1-2.
