Leuchter (Heerlen, January 12, 2001) joined Ajax from PSV in 2021 and quickly became a regular in the first team. In March of this year, the striker was crowned all-time top scorer of Ajax Women. With her hat trick in the quarterfinal of the Dutch Cup against the Talent Team U19 (5-1), she reached 81 goals, surpassing her predecessor, Marjolijn van den Bighelaar. Her total eventually stopped at 86 goals in 89 matches. Thanks to her knack for scoring, she became Ajax's club's top scorer for three consecutive years.
Due to her excellent performances in Amsterdam, Leuchter was called up for the Oranje Lionesses for the first time in February 2022. After her debut season, she also received the Player of the Year award of Ajax Women at De Toekomst. With Ajax, the striker won the Dutch Cup twice and the national title once. Additionally, the quarterfinals were the final station of a successful UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign last winter.
Romée Leuchter: "I look back on my time at Ajax with a good feeling. I am very grateful to have been able to play for this club. The matches, the training sessions, the fun we had, the people at the club, I will miss all of that. But I think I am ready for the next step in my career."
Daphne Koster, Manager Women's Football: "Of course, I am sad that Romée is leaving us; she has been of great value to the Ajax Women. But above all, there is pride: Romée has grown into a complete striker over the past few years, which is evident not only from her enormous number of goals but also from her attitude off the pitch. Ultimately, one of our goals is to prepare players for the absolute top, and I am sure Romée can be of great value in Paris."
