The young Argentine started playing football at the age of five at a children's football school in his hometown of Colonia Dora, a municipality and village in the province of Santiago del Estero, Argentina. In his youth, the right winger played for Club Atlético Sarmiento. The Ajacied still cherishes fond memories of that club, as he recently told FIFA when he reached the final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup with Argentina.
"That’s where it all began, and I am extremely grateful to Club Atlético Sarmiento, and especially coach Pinino. He helped me get to where I am now. I still speak to him. He is a fantastic person, and I want to dedicate everything I am experiencing now to him," he said.
U-20 World Cup
Carrizo lost the final with Argentina U20, 0-2, against Morocco. But with three goals in six matches, the winger played a major role in reaching the final. He scored, among others, in the quarter-final against Mexico U20: 2-0. The wide player has spent recent years in CA Vélez Sarsfield's youth academy, which was also the main supplier to the Argentina squad at the U-20 World Cup. He eventually broke through at that club.
That is also clear from the statistics. In the past season, Carrizo completed 152 dribbles across all competitions he played in. Only four players attempted more dribbles for an Argentine club across all competitions in the previous campaign. In total, the Ajacied made more than fifty official appearances for CA Vélez Sarsfield, scoring eleven goals and providing three assists.
The Argentine teenager also impressed in the 2025 calendar year in the Copa Libertadores, the South American equivalent of the UEFA Champions League. With CA Vélez Sarsfield, he reached the quarter-finals. Carrizo scored five times in ten matches, four of them in the group stage. True to Ajax tradition, he found the net immediately on his debut in South America's biggest club tournament.
Tattoos
Not only do his numbers stand out. What is striking about the Argentine’s body is his many and striking tattoos, especially the large one on his back. "It's half a lion’s head and half the face of Jesus. It stands for being a fighter, battling and never giving up," Carrizo said upon his arrival at Ajax. "I love tattoos, and I think they’re beautiful, which is why there are so many. But the biggest one is definitely the most eye-catching."
Argentine
Carrizo is now an Ajacied and joins a list of Argentines, including Nicolás Tagliafico, Lisandro Martínez and Mauro Rosales. Of the twelve compatriots who preceded him at Ajax, Carrizo could become the first Argentine teenager to play minutes in the Eredivisie. For that, he would need to make his debut quickly, as he turns twenty on February 19. The youngest Argentine to debut for Ajax so far remains Juan, who was twenty years and 98 days old when he made his debut in August 1996.
Compatriot Martínez (now playing for Manchester United) is the youngest Argentine goalscorer in the Dutch league at 21 years and 253 days. He scored the opener in September 2019 against FC Groningen: 2–0.
