Trainer Erik ten Hag was satisfied with the win against Sparta (2-1), but thought that his team were too impatient in the first half. "We made it really difficult for ourselves. We were too keen and really impatient. Then you are forced to play catch up. We were in too much of a hurry and wanted to get to the final phase too quickly. That way you play to Sparta's advantage."

The Rotterdam team gained the upper hand in the first half, but Ajax turned the match around after half time. Once more Davy Klaassen scored the first Ajax goal. In this case though, not 1-0, but the equalizer. "You could already sense it wasn't going to be easy in the first ten minutes", said the midfielder.

"They played very compact, and we were restless. We should have stayed patient. And my goal? Well it doesn't really matter how they go in. Of course we want to play attractive football and that's something that Ajax does. We are critical: we can and should be much better. But ultimately points are the most important thing."

Injury
At the end Ten Hag came back to Nico Tagliafico's injury briefly. The defender already had to leave the pitch after just half an hour of play. "He took a hard kick in the corner of the pitch and unfortunately sustained a serious injury there. The had a large flesh wound, and we'll have to see how he is tomorrow."
