Ajax have all but ensured themselves the Eredivisie title after a 2-0 victory against AZ. In a wonderful and intense game in the Johan Cruijff ArenA, Davy Klaassen was responsible for all the goals in a terrific display. The gap to second-in-the-table PSV is now twelve points with four games to go in the Eredivisie, with Ajax ahead by more than thirty goals on goal difference.
Decisive second half
There were no goals in the first half, despite both sides having good chances. After the break, it was Klaassen who made the difference. He first struck in the 66th minute. Thanks to Haller’s clever dummy, the Dutchman found the ball at his feet about eight meters from goal, remained calm and delivered the 1-0 past Bizot.
The visitors appeared to struggle with that first blow and Ajax took complete control of the match. The dominance was emphasized on the scoreboard thanks to a second goal from Klaassen in the final minutes, making it 2-0 with a header at the back post.
Thanks to the victory over AZ, Ajax have virtually sealed the title. Next week, Erik ten Hag's team can officially win their 35th league title against FC Emmen. One point would suffice.
