There is a new matchday on the horizon for the Ajax squad and their coach John Heitinga. The new head coach started this new position off right with victories against Excelsior and SC Cambuur. On Thursday, FC Twente will be the next opponent in the round of sixteen of the Dutch Cup. Ajax had their final training session on Wednesday at sports ground De Toekomst.

FC Twente is playing a stable and good season. The team led by Ron Jans is currently fifth on the Eredivisie rank. A couple of weeks ago, the competition match between the two clubs ended in a 0-0 draw in the Johan Cruyff ArenA. This shows how evenly matched the two teams are.

In the Cup tournament, Ajax cannot afford any mistakes. Any mistake could mean that Ajax has to leave the tournament. A direct knock-out in this tournament is something both Ajax and FC Twente want to avoid at all costs. Ajax is hunting for its 21st Cup victory in the history of the club. The team from Twente has won three Dutch Cups and would love to add a fourth one to their list of trophies.

Heitinga gave the finishing touches on Wednesday. Everything to play the best they can in the Grolsch Veste, home to FC Twente. Ajax will do all it can to continue its Dutch Cup winning streak. The encouragement the Ajax players got from a few youth players along the sidelines of the field was heart-warming. With their support, the youngsters might have played a small but valuable role in the preparations for a hopefully successful Cup night.

Timber about 100 appearances for Ajax 1: 'It's definitely something to be proud of'

Jurriën Timber made his one hundredth appearance for Ajax 1 against Excelsior (1-4) on Sunday. That propelled him into the Club of 100. So it's high time to put his photo up and have a chat with the defender about this milestone. "I do think it's a lot actually, one hundred games, especially for someone so young. When you gaze at that wall, it's great being up there with the others."
