Fixtures are now coming along in rapid succession. After this week's debacle in the UEFA Champions League, focus returns to the Eredivisie this Saturday. FC Volendam are the opponents in the ninth round of the Dutch league cup. Alfred Schreuder's squad stepped out onto the training pitch Friday, in preparation for the local North Holland derby.

Facing FC Volendam, Ajax can wash away their troubles from that agonising defeat against Napoli. Three points at De Dijk is the best remedy. The team were making their preparations for the game this Friday, with kick-off Saturday at 4:30pm.

Ajax had a thoroughly humiliating evening in the Johan Cruyff ArenA Tuesday. Napoli were lord and masters at the top of group A for the third match in the UEFA Champions League. And a 6-1 victory ensued. It is Ajax's biggest home defeat in Europe in history.
