In pictures | Ajax work towards home match with FC Volendam

Ajax are already preparing for their next footballing task. On Thursday night, FC Volendam are the opponents at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. On Wednesday, Alfred Schreuder's squad worked through their final training session at de Toekomst sports complex.

The games follow each other in rapid succession at this stage of the season. Three days after the North Holland derby against FC Volendam, another away game against Excelsior awaits. So a full house for the Ajax players, for whom the age-old credo applies: only the next game counts. So the focus on this pre-matchday is entirely on the home match with the Volendam team.

Earlier this season, Ajax made an appearance at the Kras Stadium. On 8 October 2022, Ajax rescued the match with a 2-4 victory. At the Kras Stadium, Dusan Tadic (from a penalty) and Calvin Bassey scored before half-time. For the Nigerian, it was his first goal as an Ajax player.

After Brian Brobbey's 0-3, the match seemed to be decided after more than an hour of play. Nothing could be further from the truth as the home club battled back to 2-3. With a pass from Francisco Conceição, Davy Klaassen wrote his name on the 2-4 in the closing minutes.

Ajax could well use a boost, in the form of a convincing win, in the title race. The undecided classic (1-1) on Sunday marked the completion of the first half of the season. This second half of the season can - or rather, should - kick off with a positive result. At least it will not be down to a lack of commitment from the Ajax players during the final training session.
