Ajax suffered its first defeat in the League Phase of the UEFA Europa League on Thursday evening. In Spain, Real Sociedad proved too strong with a 2-0 victory.
Francesco Farioli, accompanied by Youri Baas, previewed Thursday's European clash against Real Sociedad during a press conference in San Sebastián on Wednesday evening. The Italian coach hopes to have Wout Weghorst available, despite the striker not travelling to the Basque Country due to flu symptoms.
Ajax will travel with 22 players to San Sebastian. Wout Weghorst is not fit and therefore will not be on the flight to Spain. The striker can, however, join the squad on Thursday if he recovers in time. Ajax will kick off against Real Sociedad at 21:00 on Thursday evening in the League Phase of the UEFA Europa League.
Ajax won 2-0 at home against PEC Zwolle, but it was no easy task in the Johan Cruyff ArenA. Even goalkeeper Remko Pasveer thought Ajax were sloppy. "The first game after the break is always tricky. But we just gave away too much today. What normally works well for us, didn't work well today."
