Ajax claimed their first victory in the League Phase of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening. The Ajacieden beat Qarabağ FK 2-4 thanks to a strong late surge. The Amsterdam goals came from Oscar Gloukh (two), Kasper Dolberg and Anton Gaaei.
Sean Steur looked back on a wonderful evening. On Wednesday night, he made his debut in Ajax’s starting line-up and in the Champions League. What’s more, the young player even provided an assist in Europe’s premier club competition. "A very beautiful evening, something no one can ever take away from me," said the 17-year-old midfielder after the 2–4 victory away at Qarabağ FK. "When I stepped onto the pitch, I really thought: this is something I have to enjoy."
Anton Gaaei has a knack for scoring wonder goals as an Ajax player. In Baku, the Danish defender distinguished himself once again with a brilliant strike. "I train it a lot, that’s why I score these kinds of goals. When the ball came, I knew I had to try it and look for the far corner," said Gaaei, who was very relieved about the result. "I’m happy that we showed character, got off the mark, and are now playing a bit more as a team."
