On Monday afternoon, Ajax suffered a 0-1 defeat in friendly match against Go Ahead Eagles. Thibo Baeten scored the only goal of the game after half an hour of play, setting the final score. The match at de Toekomst featured mainly players who received limited to no playing time in the Eredivisie on Saturday against Heracles.
Ajax has got the season off to a great start. New manager Maurice Steijn's team overpowered Heracles Almelo 4-1 in the Johan Cruyff ArenA. Jakov Medić, Mohammed Kudus and Steven Bergwijn (twice) all scored for the championship leaders. The equaliser from newcomer Medić was particularly stunning.
Gero Rulli is unavailable for the time being. The Argentinian goalkeeper sustained an injury on his right shoulder during the match against Heracles and cannot play until at least the winter break.
