In the pressroom of the Johan Cruijff ArenA, John van 't Schip and Jordan Henderson took place behind the mic on Friday afternoon. The brand-new Ajacied and his coach took time to respond to his transfer. "If you only look at the amount of attention he gets, you can see his status."

With the English and Dutch press, who made their way to the ArenA in large numbers, Henderson had a lot of attention. He had a clear answer to the question as to why he chose the Amsterdam-based club. "It's one of the biggest clubs in the world and the biggest club in Holland. It’s a great challenge for me to play here. I want to help the club and be as successful as possible."

The Brit knows the club's current situation and wants to pass his experience on to the relatively young players. "Things have changed, and they are starting to make their way back up again. I want to showcase myself here and do what I always do: help my teammates improve." With his experience abroad, he wants to be an addition to the team. "Leadership comes in all forms, and in the past, I've worked with people who helped me with that. I want to lead by example, both on and off the pitch." The midfielder doesn't mind what position he will play. "I've played on six and eight. I can change, especially looking at the last five years. Wherever the team or coach needs me, I'll be."

Debut
Before the English press gets to ask questions, Henderson is asked about his fitness. "We will see. It's up to me to show what I can during training sessions and matches. I am ready to start when I can. I have always dedicated my life to football and will continue doing so." Due to work permits, Henderson won't be able to play against RKC on Sunday and didn’t train on Friday. "I want to debut as soon as possible and can’t wait."

"Eat, breathe and sleep, Ajax" is what Henderson answers when asked about his dedication to the club. "Every day, every training session. Do everything in order to get better. I did that at Liverpool for twelve years and want to do the same thing here."

After more than half an hour, it's Van ‘t Schip's turn. The coach, who patiently waited for Henderson to answer all questions, speaks about his choice for the Brit. "Our priority was an experienced midfielder, looking at our squad and the injuries. Once we got the opportunity to sign Henderson, we knew it would benefit the club and the team."

Sunday
To conclude, the match against RKC on Sunday in the Johan Cruijff ArenA is briefly discussed. It's not sure if Josip Šutalo can play. "Whether he can play or not will be decided tomorrow during the final training session. Gaston Avila is injured and won’t be a part of the squad on Sunday. The other injured players are on the same level, and some are on their way back up."
