Bergwijn first encountered the Ajax philosophy in the summer of 2005 as a seven-year-old talent. Brimming with confidence, the Amsterdam-born player made his first dribbles on the De Toekomst sports complex fields. Until the 2010/2011 season, 'Stevie' was part of the Ajax youth academy before moving to PSV.

Eleven years later, in the summer of 2022, Bergwijn returned to his old home via Eindhoven and London. Ajax signed the winger from Tottenham Hotspur, where he had spent two and a half seasons under contract.

The Dutch international made a dazzling start upon his return. On 31 July 2022, Bergwijn started in the Johan Cruijff Shield match against his former club PSV. His first official game for Ajax was underway, and within fifteen minutes, he scored a beautiful opening goal. However, the match ended in a 3-5 defeat.

Two weeks later, Bergwijn impressed at the Johan Cruijff ArenA once again. The newly signed player found the net three times in the home match against FC Groningen: 6-1. In the remaining matches, the forward managed to score another hat-trick. In the final home match of last season, Bergwijn scored all the goals in the 3-0 victory against Almere City. It took him only ten minutes to do so.

In total, Bergwijn played 6,152 minutes for Ajax's first team across eighty matches. He scored 29 goals and provided twelve assists during this time. The winger wore the Ajax shirt 57 times in the Eredivisie. In his first two full seasons for the Amsterdam-based team, he played 4,603 minutes and started in the line-up 51 times.

The Dutch international was involved in 98 key actions, provided nine assists, and scored 24 times in the Eredivisie. Of these goals, 23 were with his right foot, including five penalties, while the remaining goal was scored with a header. Five of his goals were struck from outside the penalty box.

Bergwijn, who captained the team last season, played his final match in the red and white of Ajax on Thursday, 29 August, against Jagiellonia Białystok in a 3-0 victory. He played the full 90 minutes, helping Ajax qualify for the UEFA Europa League group stage.
