In November 2024, the winger extended his contract with Ajax. Around lunchtime, we meet the nineteen-year-old Ajax player in the canteen of the 'De Toekomst' training complex. The Belgian offers a friendly handshake and takes a seat.
Why did you say ‘yes’ to this role with the Ajax Foundation?
"The Ajax Foundation is a great initiative. I admire what the Foundation does for society. When I was asked to take on this role, I immediately said ‘yes’ because I want to contribute to this good cause."
Why were you chosen for this role?
"They see me as the right person to be the face of the Ajax Foundation. They believe I am the right person to support youth."
Do you see yourself as a role model for (Amsterdam's) youth?
"Yes, I do. As a player for Ajax 1, I assume I’m automatically a role model. Some kids need a bit more help to pursue their dreams. I want to mean something to those kids in particular."
How do you plan to fulfill this role?
"I will visit schools with the Ajax Foundation. Beyond just being physically present, I really want to inspire the youth during these projects and help them chase their dreams."
Have you spoken to Rensch about his experiences with the Ajax Foundation?
"Not in detail yet. We’ll definitely talk about it soon. He did tell me that he found it meaningful to contribute to the Foundation."
What do you know about the Ajax Foundation and its goals?
"I had to catch up a bit, to be honest. After an introduction, I learned that the Foundation primarily focuses on youth in schools around Amsterdam. I find the projects appealing, especially since their goal is to inspire and motivate young people to discover and develop their talents. That’s something I want to contribute to as a season ambassador."
What do you think of Ajax's societal initiatives?
"It’s great, of course. It doesn’t surprise me that Ajax is so engaged in supporting the community. It’s wonderful to see the club presenting itself in this way."
As a season ambassador, you can make on impact on society. Does that align with who you are?
"I think so, I always try to help others. Above all, I want to help children have a bright future. I want to be an example for them."
Amsterdam’s youth are encouraged to chase their dreams. Are you living your dream?
"Absolutely. I still have many other dreams, but playing for Ajax is one dream I’ve already achieved."
You mentioned that playing for Ajax was a dream. What are your next goals?
"This season, I want to develop even further as a player and become more decisive for Ajax. We’re fighting to hopefully win a trophy. Ultimately, I want to win multiple trophies with Ajax in the coming years."
What would you like to say to young people to help them achieve their goals?
"Never give up, no matter what. And always believe in your dreams. You never know when they’ll come true. There will always be an opportunity to make your dream a reality, so keep working as hard as you can."
Does your family know about this new role, and how did they react?
"The first person I told was my mother. She immediately said I should accept it. She also asked when the projects I’ll be involved in will start. She’s very interested in my new role."
