The Chief Executive Officer of Ajax (44) will, in his new role, contribute to the further development of the European club competitions and will also represent the interests of Dutch club football. The clubs competing in Europe this season, the Eredivisie CV and the KNVB had already rallied behind Geelen's candidacy, after which he was nominated by the EFC and unanimously elected by the UEFA executive committee.

UEFA Club Competitions Committee
The UEFA Club Competitions Committee is an important advisory body to the UEFA executive committee with regard to the European club competitions. At a strategic level, the committee discusses all relevant matters relating to this, including finances, format & access, marketing and disciplinary issues.

The committee draws up recommendations for the UEFA executive committee in order to further develop and strengthen the competitions. In addition, the committee considers commercial matters, can assist in selecting venues for finals and proposes models for the distribution of funds between and within the European club competitions.

Geelen: "It is special to be able to fulfil this role. For clubs from footballing countries such as the Netherlands, it is crucial that we are at the table when it comes to how the European club competitions are shaped. I will do everything I can to further strengthen the successful European club competitions, with special attention to the interests of the medium-sized countries and clubs."
