Gaston Avila joins CA Rosario Central on loan

Ajax, Gaston Avila and Club Atlético Rosario Central have reached an agreement on the loan of the defender to the Argentine club. The loan takes effect immediately and runs until the end of this calendar year. The agreement includes an option to buy for the Argentine club. The 24-year-old player’s contract with Ajax runs until June 30, 2028.

Avila (September 30, 2001, Rosario, Argentina) joined Ajax in the summer of 2023 from Belgian side Royal Antwerp FC. The Argentine made his debut on September 3 of that year in the match Fortuna Sittard – Ajax. Avila played eight official matches for the first team. Last year, he was loaned to Brazilian club Fortaleza EC.

Director of Football Marijn Beuker: "Due to injury problems, Gaston has only been able to play eight official matches for Ajax's first team. Partly because of that, he has unfortunately not been able to show himself consistently. At the moment, there is no prospect of playing time for him with us, so a new loan is the best solution for all parties. We have wished Gaston every success at his former club in Argentina."

Grim: 'I assume the match will go ahead on Sunday'

Ajax resume the second half of the season on Sunday with an away match against Telstar. In the build-up to this fixture, head coach Fred Grim looked ahead to the restart of the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie during an online press conference. "It was going well with Steven Berghuis, but he has had a small setback. Wout Weghorst is also not yet training with the group."
