Despite the relaxation in the Netherlands and other countries, there is continuing uncertainty about the course of the pandemic. Along with the short term in which the Future Cup would have taken place, it was reason to cancel it. It is the third year in a row that the Future Cup has not taken place due to the corona crisis. The tournament will not be caught up at a later time. The next edition therefore takes place in the next year, 2023.

The Future Cup is a highly regarded international youth tournament for Under-17 teams that was held annually until 2019 at Sportpark de Toekomst, Amsterdam. The first edition of the Future Cup took place during Easter weekend in 2010. Ajax has won the cup five times. Ajax players such as Davy Klaassen, Abdelhak Nouri, Matthijs de Ligt and Naci Ünüvar were previously named as Best Player of the tournament.
