The new playing rules during the international tournament for U17 teams are: effective playing time, self-pass, time penalty, kick-in/dribble-in, and unlimited substitutions.
Head of Development Casimir Westerveld explains why the Future Cup will work with these rules: "One of our core values is thinking offensively. This means that within our youth academy, we look at things we can progress in when developing our players and the game further. The five new playing rules are supported by the International Football Association Board (IFAB) and KNVB and have to ensure the game becomes more attractive and fairer. Two aspects we want to pursue. This international tournament is perfect for showing what we stand for."
Effective playing time
Once the game stops, the clock stops, too. This prevents any loss of time and discourages time-wasting. The matches consist of two halves of twenty minutes each, pure playing time.
Self-pass
During a free kick, a player is not required to pass the ball to another player to restart the game. The player must place the ball still and is allowed to dribble it themselves.
Time penalty
Upon receiving a yellow card, the player must leave the field for four minutes. If a player gets a second yellow card or a red card, they are not allowed to return to the pitch at all.
Kick-in/dribble-in
The traditional throw-in is replaced by the kick-in or dribble-in. When the ball goes over the sideline, it is not thrown in. Players may kick the ball to a teammate or dribble it themselves. Dribbling is also permitted for corners.
Unlimited substitutions
During a substitution, the referee no longer needs to stop the game. While a substitution takes place at the halfway line near the team's dugout, the match will continue. Each team is allowed one substitution at a time. Additionally, teams are allowed to make continuous substitutions.
VAR
The VAR will also be used during the twelfth edition of the Future Cup. This will only happen on the main field.
