Farioli (Barga, Italy, April 10, 1989) will become the head coach of Ajax's first team. The coach began his coaching career in 2009 at the youth departments of several Italian clubs. From 2015 until 2017, he worked as a goalkeeping coach in Qatar. He had the same role at Serie A clubs Benevento Calcio and US Sassuolo Calcio. In mid-2020, Farioli was appointed assistant coach at the Turkish Alanyaspor. In the spring of 2021, he became head coach at Fatih Karagümrük, playing in the Turkish Süper Lig. That made him the youngest head coach in a Turkish league ever. Farioli became head coach at Alanyaspor in 2021, where he previously had the assistant role. In mid-2023, Farioli was appointed as head coach at the French OGC Nice, with which he ended in fifth place of the Ligue 1.
Technical staff
The technical staff of Ajax 1 will be completed with assistant coaches Daniele Cavalletto and Felipe Sanchez Mateos, who both transfer from OGC Nice. Cavalletto (Padova, Italy, March 3, 1977) has been an assistant coach at various Italian clubs since 2008. He worked at OGC Nice, Fatih Karagümrük and Alanyaspor together with Farioli and Sanchez Mateos (Llerena, Spain, April 21, 1986), who in turn has experience as an assistant coach with various (youth) teams in Spain, Turkey, Qatar and Ecuador.
Dave Vos will also be added to the first team's staff as an assistant coach. Vos (Amstelveen, April 24, 1983) has been the head coach of Ajax U23 since February 2023. Vos began his coaching career in Ajax's youth academy and was previously an assistant coach at Ajax U23 and the Scottish Rangers FC.
Jelle ten Rouwelaar (Joure, December 24, 1980) has been appointed goalkeeping coach. The former goalkeeper previously worked as a goalkeeping coach at NAC Breda, Anderlecht, and Burnley.
Technical Director Alex Kroes: "Francesco is a coach who is passionately engaged in his profession, thinks everything through to the smallest detail, and can effectively convey his thoughts to his team. We became very enthusiastic through the conversations we had with him, but also through the information we had gathered about him beforehand. For example, about his working method and his way of thinking about football. You can see his way of working and thinking reflected well in his training sessions and during matches. Everything indicates that Francesco is an intelligent man who can interact well with people, which is also a very important part of the job. All in all, we are convinced that he fits in well at Ajax."
Farioli: "I am delighted to be here in Amsterdam, and together with the other staff members, we will dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly. We want to reconnect with the DNA of the club, aiming to bring new energy with a positive way of working and thinking. I’m aware that there is a lot of work to do, but we have already begun preparing. We don't want to waste any time getting ready for the new season and bringing Ajax back to where it belongs."
