"Fortuna Sittard made it a physical game," the Italian coach observed. "On top of that, the pitch was not easy to play on. The first twenty minutes went quite well, and we were able to play some decent football. After that, the team had to show real fighting spirit."
'He deserved that goal'
Farioli gave special praise to Daniele Rugani, who came on late in the match and was flawless. "He won every aerial duel in the final minutes. But I’m also really pleased that Rasmussen scored—he deserved that goal. Christian has never complained. Overall, I think the players handled the challenges really well."
With the win in Limburg, Ajax now sits at the top of the table, much to the delight of the travelling fans. However, Farioli emphasised that their support has never wavered. "The fans have always been enthusiastic, not just now that we’re top. They’ve been there for us in good times and bad. But now, our focus shifts to Union Saint-Gilloise."
