While the press was trying to find the best place next to the pitch, Farioli’s team arrived at the training ground in Amsterdam. Wearing the new tracksuits, the players started the warming-up. At the same time, the goalkeepers started working with Jelle ten Rouwelaar and Erik Heijblok in the corner of the pitch.
Once the muscles had warmed up and the pitch was provided with water once more, the balls were added. A high-paced passing and kicking exercise followed, and Farioli’s assistant coaches made themselves heard from the sidelines. The same went for the Italian coach. “Bravo, bravo”, the manager told his players.
Amongst his players
The training continued with small rondos in three groups, also joined by the goalkeepers. Continuously holding a ball under his arm, Farioli made his way through the rondos while coaching his players. The same image was visible a little while later, during a big positional play where the Italian moved amongst the Ajacieden.
The intense training was finished with a running exercise. The Ajacieden had to run a distance within thirty seconds. "Finish strong, finish together", echoed from the sidelines during the last repetition. The players finished the first training session and received a solid handshake from Farioli afterwards. With sweaty faces and a smile, the Ajacieden left the training pitch.
