With Takehiro Tomiyasu making his first start for the club, the Amsterdam side were looking for the opener. The goal was found after a free kick from Steven Berghuis was deflected by Joshua Kitolano. About ten minutes later, the net was found again with another important role by Berghuis. The assist came from Sean Steur and Berghuis scored the second goal for the home team.

Ajax started the second half with a 2-0 lead and were determined to extend their advantage. With big chances from Mika Godts and Don-Angelo Konadu, it was eventually Davy Klaassen who scored the third goal of the night. Godts provided the assist for the third goal and shortly after added one of his own to make it 4-0, the final score.
