The match at Białystok City Stadium began with Ajax on the front foot. Their first attempt came early when Steven Berghuis had a shot blocked by the goalkeeper in the third minute. However, it was Jagiellonia Białystok who opened the scoring, with Adrián Diéguez capitalizing on a quick corner to give the home side an early lead.
Ajax responded swiftly. Chuba Akpom, the star of the match, levelled the score in the first half with his first of three goals. He continued his excellent form into the second half, adding two more goals to complete his hat trick, the final one coming from a penalty after a foul on Gaaei. Mika Godts, despite seeing several of his attempts saved by the Jagiellonia goalkeeper, managed to find the back of the net in the 28th minute. Ajax were awarded a second penalty later in the match, but Godts was unable to convert.
With no Eredivisie fixture this week, Ajax's next challenge will be the return leg against Jagiellonia Białystok at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. The match kicks off at 20:00 on Thursday, August 29.
