Charlie Setford joins MK Dons FC on loan

Ajax has reached an agreement with MK Dons FC on the loan of Charlie Setford. The goalkeeper will join the English club with immediate effect and will remain there until the end of the current season. MK Dons compete in League Two. The 21-year-old is under contract with Ajax until June 30, 2027. The agreement includes an option to buy for the English side.

Setford (Haarlem, May 11, 2004) has been part of Ajax’s youth academy since 2012. He made his professional debut on August 20, 2021, playing for Ajax U23 in the league match against FC Den Bosch. In 2022, the goalkeeper received the Abdelhak Nouri Trophy for the greatest talent from the youth academy. Until now, he played 56 Keuken Kampioen Divisie matches for Ajax U23.

Director of Football Marijn Beuker: "At this stage of his career, it is important for Charlie to get plenty of playing time as a first-choice goalkeeper, and a loan move to MK Dons provides that opportunity. Hopefully, Charlie can play many minutes in England and continue his development. We have wished him every success."
