Bouwman and Ouazane on target as Ajax beat Burnley FC

Ajax marked their return to the Johan Cruijff ArenA after the summer break with a 2-1 victory over Burnley FC. Aaron Bouwman and Abdellah Ouazane were on target in the friendly against the English side.

Míchel Sánchez included new signings Caio Henrique and Marcos Leonardo in his starting eleven. For the head coach, as well as for the Brazilian duo, it was a first appearance at the Johan Cruijff ArenA. Joeri Heerkens, Jinairo Johnson and Ouazane also made their first appearances in front of the home crowd.

Ajax took the lead
The visitors made the brighter start to the match, but the English side struggled to create any clear-cut chances. After 34 minutes, it was Ajax who took the lead through Bouwman.

Burnley FC also started the second half strongly and this time made their dominance count. Former Ajax player Jaydon Banel somewhat fortuitously levelled the score at 1-1. Ajax regained control in the final half-hour and eventually restored their lead. Ouazane tapped home at the far post to seal a 2-1 victory at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.

Ajax return to home action on Thursday, when FK Vojvodina are the visitors in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Conference League.
