After coming on as a substitute against PSV, Berghuis also managed to get some minutes in the match against Maccabi Tel Aviv. In the final phase of the game, the Ajax player provided an assist for Kian Fitz-Jim. "That's the least important thing, but it's always nice. I’m glad to have played thirty minutes again. The past period was tough and frustrating for me because I had just found my rhythm and played ninety minutes in Poland. Then, during a training session, I picked up a knee injury that needed time to heal. I’ve got the green light to get some minutes under my belt again, and now we need to build on that."
Fantastic goals
At home, Ajax were dominant, beating the Israeli side 5-0. According to Berghuis, it wasn’t just the goals that were impressive, but also the teamwork on the pitch. "We scored fantastic goals, but overall, the teamwork was also good. Defending together, attacking together, everyone scores, and everyone is involved. The play on the field was how we want to play: attractive."
Recovery period
During his recovery from the knee injury, Berghuis remained closely involved with the team. He tried to be present as much as possible for important moments. "I was always there. I did my recovery at Ajax. I was present at every meeting and home match. As much as I could, I was there for everything, except for the away matches. I also skipped the match against Qarabağ FK. Whenever I could watch training, I did."
Now that Berghuis’s fitness is improving, it is a matter of continuing to work hard to increase his playing time. "It's up to the manager; the matches come in quick succession. I hope to be involved again this Sunday and, of course, to win as a team. I’m happy," the Ajax player concluded.
