“It's a great result,” said Steven Berghuis with some satisfaction after beating Vitesse 5-0. “We scored a few great goals. It wasn't all perfect, but these are the results we need to start seeing again.”

The Ajax player saw his team deliver a few great set pieces. ''We're seeing certain patterns of play again. Especially how we set up our positions on the ball. But there is still room for improvement when applying pressure after losing possession. But when you look at how young our defenders were today. Obviously, things could always be better.''

Ajax made it 4-0 from a corner. That was only the second goal from a corner this season. Berghuis thinks he knows why. ''Losing Lisandro Martínez, Edson Álvarez and Sébastien Haller means a lot less header play. Chuba Akpom still manages it, though. And there lies your answer. We could also be a little more imaginative from corners.''

The Ajax number 23 came off in the closing stages, but he's not overly worried. ''I took a knock to the ankle. The pain was a little too much to carry on.''
