Both of Baas' goals came from corners, and that was no coincidence, the Ajax defender admitted. The 1-0 came directly from a corner, while the second goal followed from a loose ball after another Ajax corner. "We've been training on corners all season. I enjoyed the first goal the most. We knew they would play man-to-man. Then it's about beating your man and heading it in. That worked out well."
"With the second goal, FC Volendam’s organisation was briefly gone," Baas observed. "They were playing man-marking, and then it's always a bit of a search for them whether to drop back into the zone or keep following their man. We took advantage of that."
Ajax also kept a clean sheet. All in all, it was a good Saturday for the 22-year-old Ajacied. "At half-time we really emphasised keeping a clean sheet. We know that in the second half we sometimes drop off. I didn't think it was great in the second half, but we weren't in danger. We created too many chances. That's why it stays 2-0 and the match never really gets wrapped up. We should simply have made it 3-0 or 4-0."
Ajax did look stable throughout the match. The win was never really under threat. "What happened against Telstar and Go Ahead Eagles wasn't good. We really stressed that today. That couldn't happen to us again. In that respect, we're making progress."
