From a sporting perspective, the 2023/2024 season was disappointing for the Ajax 1 men's team. The team finished third in the UEFA Europa League group stage, and their European campaign ended after the Round of 16 of the UEFA Conference League. In the Eredivisie, Ajax finished fifth, securing a place in the second qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League for the 2024/2025 season.

The Ajax 1 women's team had a more successful season. They qualified for the group stage of the UEFA Champions League and reached the quarter-finals as group winners. In the Eredivisie, Ajax finished in second place. The season was crowned with a trophy after winning the Dutch Cup.

Key Figures

  • Net turnover decreased by € 44.4 million (23%) to € 152.0 million, mainly due to lower European bonuses and reduced merchandise sales.
  • Expenses decreased by € 11.4 million to € 191.3 million (6%) due to a reduction in player salaries and lower procurement costs resulting from decreased merchandise sales.
  • The operational loss for this financial year amounted to € 39.3 million, compared to € 6.4 million in 2022/2023.
  • Transfer revenue amounted to € 81.5 million, mainly driven by the transfers of Mohammed Kudus and Edson Álvarez to West Ham United and Jurriën Timber to Arsenal. After amortising compensation fees, the net transfer result amounted to € 31.3 million.
  • The net loss was € 9.8 million. In the 2022/2023 season, the net profit was € 39.0 million.
  • After accounting for the negative result of € 9.8 million, the equity stands at € 226.4 million.

Ajax expects a negative result after taxes for the 2024/2025 season. This is due to the current cost structure in relation to participation in the UEFA Europa League on the one hand and the realised transfer results so far on the other. In the interest of long-term financial health, additional structural cost reductions are being implemented this season.
