Chuba Akpom couldn't help but smile when he saw his goal against sc Heerenveen on ESPN. The forward had given them a clear lead: 0-2. "A real striker's goal. I had to pull back slightly and try to put as much force into heading it as possible. Yes, I am really pleased with that goal."

The victory in Friesland takes Ajax to within just one point of top of the league PSV, but the forward prefers not to talk about a title race. "You're looking for sound bites," said the Brit, with a wink. "But we really don't see it that way. We still have so many games ahead of us. That just becomes distracting. We have to keep our feet on the ground."

Either way, Ajax played well at SC Heerenveen and deserved their 2-0 victory. "We have to keep up this mindset. That is also one of our strong points. Every season has its ups and downs. But even in bad times we show who we are."
