Fulfilling your dreams at the club you've supported since childhood is now possible for both boys and girls at Ajax. In 2019, the club launched a talent development program for girls, and since then, numerous players have made their way through the youth ranks to the first team. "For me, it's very special. I was a big Ajax fan as a child, and now I get to play for my dream club," says Rosa van Gool.
To mark International Women's Day, the Ajax Women participated in a special photoshoot this week. Dressed in black suits and exuding confidence, the players posed for powerful portraits.
'An honor'
Several key players shared what playing for Ajax means to them. "Ajax has such a rich history," said Lily Yohannes. "To be part of that is an honor."
Goalkeeper Regina van Eijk echoed similar sentiments: "Everyone knows Ajax and has a special feeling about the name and the club."

Van Gool, Yohannes, and Van Eijk all share a common path—they came through the Ajax youth system before reaching the first team, which fills them with pride. "We came through the academy, so I truly feel like a child of the club," Van Eijk stated.
Impressively, 50% of the current first-team squad—leaders of the Azerion Women’s Eredivisie—consists of homegrown players.
Seizing the opportunity
Her advice to the next generation is clear: always aim for the highest level. "If you get a chance at Ajax, grab it with both hands and strive to reach the first team. That way, you can become part of this club's incredible history. I’m very proud of that."
Playing at De Toekomst and progressing through the Ajax system is a privilege, according to Yohannes. "You learn how to play the Ajax way. That’s something that stays with you forever."
A top athlete is nothing without a strong support system, a sentiment Van Gool wholeheartedly agrees with. "My family have always been there for me. Moving to Ajax and attending school in Amsterdam was a big step, but they have always been my biggest support."
