Ajax enjoys victory over Zwolle

Ajax did manage to win in their second away game of the season. Following their 1-1 draw against FC Twente, the Amsterdam team beat PEC Zwolle 2-0 on Saturday evening. Sébastien Haller scored both goals. The European season kicks off next Wednesday when Ajax visit Sporting Lisbon in the UEFA Champions League.

Trainer Erik ten Hag had to do without a number of 'certainties' in his squad against PEC Zwolle on Saturday evening. Davy Klaassen is still off injured following the international, and Nico Tagliafico and Lisandro Martinez were unable to get back from Argentina in time for the game in Zwolle. Even Maarten Stekelenburg had to miss the clash with PEC.

Haller got the goal tally going after half an hour of play. Little changed after that goal, with Ajax keeping possession and PEC Zwolle going on the counter-attack. Ajax held the - rather slim - lead at half-time.

Entertainment value
The entertainment value got no better in the second half. Though Ajax did manage to improve the score. In the 67th minute, Haller won a direct challenge in the air against Kostas Lamprou: 2-0. And with that, the game was over.

PEC Zwolle – Ajax 0-2 (0-1)
29. Haller 0-1
67. Haller 0-2

Ajax: Pasveer, Mazrouai, Timber, Blind, Rensch, Álvarez, Berghuis (82. Daramy), Gravenberch, Antony (46. Neres), Haller, Tadic
