Ajax took an early lead through Mika Godts, who finished brilliantly with a lob over former Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer. Just a minute later, Steven Berghuis doubled the advantage. The Amsterdam side remained in control throughout the first half and went into the break with a 0–2 lead.

After the restart, Berghuis added his second goal of the evening to make it 0–3. No further goals followed in the remainder of the match. In the closing stages, Takehiro Tomiyasu came on as a substitute but was sent off after committing a foul on Heracles’ Lequincio Zeefuik.

The victory means Ajax are still in the race for European football. A third place in the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie means a spot in the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League. The next VriendenLoterij Eredivisie fixture for Ajax will be against NAC. That match will take place on Saturday, March 25, at 20:00 in Breda.

Sören Lerby made his Ajax debut fifty years ago and became a record holder

Few Ajax supporters could have predicted, on 11 April 1976, that they were witnessing the beginning of a remarkable club record. On that day, Sören Lerby made his debut for Ajax 1 against Go Ahead Eagles. When he said farewell to the club in 1983, his résumé listed an impressive 269 appearances. That extraordinary journey began fifty years ago, at De Meer. Until the 2019/2020 season, Lerby remained the foreign Ajax player with the most first‑team matches in the club’s history.
