The Ajacieden took the lead after thirteen minutes in a lively opening phase. Mister 1–0, Davy Klaassen, thundered the ball home with a magnificent strike. As the first half progressed, Ajax remained solid defensively and the home side created several more chances. The biggest of these fell to Sean Steur, but the midfielder saw his effort cleared off the line by the Feyenoord defence.
Ajax started the second half strongly, but Feyenoord then enjoyed a spell of pressure. After just under an hour of play, Fred Grim’s side were fortunate when Gijs Smal struck a cleared corner first time, with the ball thankfully flying centimetres wide of Vitezslav Jaros’ goal.
As the second half went on, the biggest chances fell to Ajax. Oscar Gloukh had two opportunities, while Kian Fitz-Jim and Mika Godts were also unable to make it 2–0. Feyenoord threatened through Ayase Ueda, but the VriendenLoterij Eredivisie’s top scorer failed to find the net at the Johan Cruijff ArenA.
The tension was high in the closing stages, but deep into stoppage time Mokio decided the match. The substitute fired the ball into the net to make it 2–0, sparking huge celebrations. With the victory, Ajax reduced the gap to runners-up Feyenoord to five points. It was also their third Klassieker win in a row.
