Ajax win away game after wealth of opportunities

Ajax has again added three points to its total in the Eredivisie, after a narrow away win for Ajax at Fortuna Sittard. Erik ten Hag's side won 2-1, with Ajax's two goals coming courtesy of Sebastian Polter (own goal) and Sébastien Haller. Shortly after the break Fortuna had managed to match Ajax's performance.

The win puts Ajax back at the top of the Eredivisie as sole leaders.  Saturday afternoon saw Vitesse equalise in terms of points, but with their fourteenth competition win of the season, Ajax are now three points clear at the top of the league. PSV trail Ajax by four points.

Haller delivered the decisive goal in the 64th minute. After the end of the match however he was far from content. "We need to improve in terms of creating chances and being more ruthless."

"The only thing we can be happy with today are the three points, the rest we have a lot to learn from."

Highlights AZ – Ajax l A solid win

Despite eight changes to their final 11, Ajax came out in fighting form against AZ on Wednesday evening. Erik ten Hag's side won 1-0 in Alkmaar, securing the team a place in the final eight of the Dutch Cup. The quarter-final draw will take place on Saturday.
