Both sides created chances in the opening ten minutes. After ten minutes, it was Camilo Duran who opened the scoring for Qarabağ FK. Ajax goalkeeper Vítězslav Jaroš came too far off his line, allowing Duran to chip the ball over him and into the net for the 1-0. The teams went into the dressing room with the score level at 1-1.
Shortly after the break, Ajax conceded another goal. Matheus Silva put Qarabağ FK back in front with the 2-1. Ajax pushed for another equaliser but initially struggled to find the net. Fred Grim’s team created several chances, but none were converted. As the match progressed, however, Ajax turned the tide. Oscar Gloukh scored the 2-2 from the edge of the penalty area. A few minutes later, Ajax took the lead through Anton Gaaei, who made it 2-3. In the closing stage of the match, Gloukh sealed the victory by scoring the 2-4.
