As brand new signing Wout Weghort watched from the stands, the match in the Johan Cruijff ArenA started with Ajax dominating most of the play. The first major chance was by Brobbey, who saw his attempt being blocked by the goalkeeper. Right before halftime, Kian Fitz-Jim scored his first goal for Ajax.
As the second half started, Ajax continued to hunt for the next goal. That came in the 64th minute when Kenneth Taylor scored after an assist by Henderson. The final goal of the night was made by Brian Brobbey, who scored after receiving an assist from Taylor at the back line. It was a special night for Jorthy Mokio and Daniele Rugani, who were brought on as substitutes by coach Francesco Farioli to make their debuts in the white-red-white.
The draw for the Europa League league phase will take place Friday at 13:00. The draw layout has changed, and just like in the Champions League, 36 opponents will be drawn against eight opponents.
Due to Sunday’s match against Feyenoord being cancelled, Ajax will not play in the Eredivisie this week. The next match will take place on September 15, when Ajax will play FC Utrecht.
