Ajax turn focus to home clash with Utrecht

Ajax, under head coach Oscar García, are preparing this week for their upcoming home fixture against FC Utrecht. The Amsterdam-based team host the side from Utrecht at the Johan Cruijff Arena on Sunday afternoon. Following the 2–2 draw with PSV, the aim is to take all three points against Utrecht.

The match marks a reunion with several former Ajax players. Striker Sébastien Haller, midfielders Dani de Wit and Victor Jensen, and defenders Nick Viergever and Mike van der Hoorn all previously represented the club, often with distinction. Collectively, the ex-Ajax players made no fewer than 251 appearances in the Ajax shirt. With 119 competitive matches to his name, Nick Viergever is the most experienced former Ajax player among them.

 Last season’s home fixture against Utrecht produced the same scoreline as Ajax’s most recent home game against PSV. At the Arena, Anton Gaaei found the net for the hosts, while Utrecht’s Jens Toornstra turned the ball into his own goal. Former Ajax goalkeeper Remko Pasveer also scored an unfortunate own goal in that match.

Kick-off on Sunday is at 16:45, offering another opportunity to secure a positive result.

Ajax and Ipswich Town FC have reached an agreement on the transfer of Chuba Akpom. The striker joined the English club on loan from Ajax last season, with an option to buy included in the agreement. This option has now been exercised, making Akpom’s move permanent. The 30 year old forward was under contract with Ajax until June 30, 2028.
