John van 't Schip was not best pleased with how Ajax performed in Heerenveen. "We didn't really get to see any great football. We couldn't get it over to Brian Brobbey and Kristian Hlynsson properly. When sc Heerenveen made it 3-0 just after half-time, we knew things were going to get tricky."

Not a great day
Yet Ajax made a great come-back in the second half. The score went to 3-2 courtesy of an own goal and then a goal by Chuba Akpom. "Given the changes we had, we really should have pulled off a draw", said Van 't Schip. "But all in all today was not a great day. Today was not great for us at all."

The manager couldn't bear to think about what happened in injury time. Ajax seemed to be on the brink of making it 3-3. Van 't Schip couldn't tell if the ball crossed the line or not. "We can't complain, though. We just have to do better."

"We just weren't on top of things, which of course is unacceptable. An off day. We need to sort ourselves out. We have to show people who we really are again when we play Bodø/Glimt."

Van 't Schip: 'We'll be without Bergwijn for at least February'

Ajax will have to get it done without captain Steven Bergwijn for the next few weeks. The forward suffered an upper leg injury during training this week. "How long he'll be out depends a bit on how his recovery goes," says trainer John van 't Schip. "But I think we'll be without him for at least February and also part of March."
