John Heitinga’s team came out flying, taking a 2–0 lead within the first twelve minutes thanks to a quick-fire brace from Steven Berghuis. Hibernian pulled one back shortly after, but Ajax remained dominant throughout the first half. Their superiority was reflected on the scoreboard with two goals from Mika Godts and another from Kian Fitz-Jim, making it 5–1 at the break.

A completely new Ajax XI took to the field in the second half, but that didn’t stop the hosts from adding to their tally. A well-placed header from Ahmetcan Kaplan, following an outswinging corner by Rayane Bounida, brought Ajax's sixth goal.

Despite two late goals from Hibernian — who finished third in the Scottish Premiership last season — the match ended in a 6–3 win for Ajax.
