Ajax took the lead after fifteen minutes. Mika Godts initially seemed to run into trouble, but managed to set up Klaassen in time. The Ajax midfielder fired home from just outside the penalty area. Shortly afterwards, Godts should have made it 2-0 after an impressive solo run, but from close range he hit the crossbar. Not long after, Dolberg did make it 2-0.
However, the second half saw a turnaround. Substitute Thibo Baeten pulled one back with a diagonal finish. Just over an hour into the game, Milan Smit equalised to make it 2-2. In the closing stages, Lucas Rosa had the chance to restore Ajax’s lead, but his close-range effort struck the post. Dolberg also had an opportunity to decide the match, but the Dane failed to score his second and Ajax’s third goal.
